How Do People use technology fot language learning

We have so far discussed how technologies enhance learning. in many text books, the writers claim that technology including the Internet help students learn.

Now your job is to read an article or a chapter that reports or explain how a particle kind of technology has been used by the teachers in their teaching. For example, Terantino (2011) explore how Youtube is used in foreign language learning. You can read the article here to know further about this.

  1. Youtube??? waw, it is very fantastic. The most thing that attracts me to use Internet is Youtube. I always watch football review, movie trailer and video clip. But, when I realize that youtube is not only that, I feel happier when I use it.
For education, youtube is very important and useful. Especially in learning foreign language. Teachers and students can express theirs freely and use it for social networking. Youtube also one of the media in learning process. Many teachers ask their students to find and watch youtube and they will ask them to tell in the class.
But, everything is not perfect. The youtube also has a negative side. I can said that because of the facts. Many cases appeared in youtube because of freedom in using youtube.
So that, there should be awareness of every people who use youtube.
In conclusion, we as a learner should utilize youtube as well as possible in education. Because there are many things at there that can help us to complete our obligation. But, we should realize about the bad effects.

  3. i do agree with you Evan. Youtube can enhance learning process, in this case is learning foreign language. By using Youtube teachers can deliver their material in video format to their students through internet. Students arround the world are also able to get the material from different teacher in different country. For example is Mr. Duncan, he is a teacher that upload many videos about English in Youtube.

  4. Now days, as a student of english department, i do agree that youtube can help my language better, because there i can improve my listening and see how native speaker communicate their language to each other.
in language learning, the supporting environment will help us to learn language better such as youtube. on other hand, we also learn about the technology use, for exmple, how to make a video, how to convert video, how to upload and download file in there. So, we are not only learn english there, we can improve our knowledge as much as we can. there we also can improve our vocabulary, we can find a new word and record it into our brain.
So, youtobe is not only help us learn about language learning, but many thing we can get there. The stress is youtube also has a negative thing for the visitor. there you also can see not appropriate videos, so be wise to choose your video. Use the website in a good way.

  5. I do agree with you guys....
Youtube is very amazing. I also use Youtube to find my favorite videos, education videos, entertainment, etc.
we can find many videos there, such as education, entertainment, politic, news, and any other videos.
Youtube make us learn better,, we can improve our English skills with Youtube..especially speaking and listenin, because we can active and creative use Youtube videos as authentic materials in learning speaking and listening.
But Youtube also has the negative effects, so we have to use it in right way.

  6. Based on what teacher asked to do, that is read an article or a chapter that reports or explain how a particle kind of technology has been used by the teachers in their teaching. I have been read about an article that the title "A Look at the Research on Computer- Based Technology Use in Second Language Learning: A Review of the Literature from 1990-2000." Min Liu, Zena Moore, Leah Graham, and Shinwoong Lee.The University of Texas at Austin. I got this article in :
    (http://www.google.co.id/search?hl=id&client=firefoxa&hs=F78&rls=org.mozilla%3AenUS%3Aofficial&channel=s&biw=1366&bih=541&q=A+Look+at+the+Research+on+ComputerBased+Technology+Use+in+Second+Language&oq=A+Look+at+the+Research+on+ComputerBased+Technology+Use+in+Second+Language&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=27532l28815l0l1l1l0l0l0l0l169l169l0.1)
In this article we know that computer technology became more accessible to both individuals and schools. Moreover, our growing understanding of its potential encouraged a shift in emphasis from computer technology to its applications. That is, finding ways to use computers for enhancing teaching and learning gained prominence in the research. Today, the use of multimedia, the Internet (especially the World Wide Web), and various forms of distance learning are widespread. Interest in using computers as tools to support language learning is growing, both from the perspective of a language educator and that of a language learner. Given the strong interest in the potential of computer technology for language learning, it is important to examine how computers have been used to support second and foreign language learning in the past. Beside that, in this article we also can know about software tools that support specific skills acquisition Such as; HyperCard, though commercial software was the topic of a large number of discussions. HyperCard is very easy to use and can be directly applied to many aspects of instruction that occur every day in the classroom. Word Processing, in addition to specific authorware and commercial software, the literature also addressed broader software categories that included word processors, the Internet, and speech recognition software. Typically, word processing software offers such features as spelling checkers, thesauri, dictionaries, style checkers, and grammar checkers (Levy, 1990). Internet; email, synchronous chat, bulletin boards, HTML, DHTML, XML, and digital video are all examples of internet-based tools currently being used in second/foreign language teaching and learning. This particular category of tools is generally lauded in the literature as an opportunity to expose students to authentic, culture-laden contexts to which they are able to respond by speaking and writing in the target language (Hellebrandt, 1999). For example, email was reported as being facilitative for “...very realistic form[s] of communication because it is a real conversation about real, relevant topics with real people.” Speech Recognition Software, speech recognition (SR) software requires a user to produce meaningful linguistic units that are then translated by a speech recognition program. Research from 1990 to 2000 provided some evidence on the effectiveness of computer technology in second language learning. Findings from numerous studies suggest that the use of visual media supported vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension and helped increase achievement scores. The use of online communication tools has been shown to improve writing skills in a number of studies. Studies on using Daedalus (1988-2002), in particular, showed that its use allowed all learners to have an equal opportunity to participate.

With youtube we can explorer about anything that happened outside that we never knew before on the form of videos format. With youtube people also be able to express their skill in order to share it with other people as real thing.

YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos weather positive or negative video. it depends on us to use it in positive such as use it in teaching learning. Youtube gives many advantages in teaching learning because it improve student's imagination about what have learned so, teacher should be a tutor in it. Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, thatfor we should be critical in choosing it for learning.

many benefits we can take by using technology in teaching, but, there is also the negative sides of it as i have read in this article http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/think/articles/controversies-using-technology-language-teaching

I have a little tips for you that want to search pdf file in google, if you want to find a pdf file in google, you just simply can type the title of the material that you want to search and then you put “pdf” words at the end of your title, and then the “pdf” file will come out on the search engine. But as we know that the google is too wide to the material that we search for, so we must be more selective to search it.I hope my tips can help us to search pdf file on internet.

  24. Computer-mediated communication (CMC) typically involves two dimensions that are times (syncronous and asyncronous) and modality (textual or apoken). The text-based CMC involves email, online discussion forums, online chat rooms, voicemail, and others. CMC motivates students to engage in meaningful communicationin the target language and lead to effective language learning. It shifts learning from teacher-centered to learner-centered approach, allowing students to take control of learning content and learning process.
A well- designed CMC can encourage students to notice and modify output content and structure. Enhance motivation, reduce anxiety, foster learner autonomy, and promote cooperative learning. CMC also make students can express their thought at their own pace and in their own space.
One of features in web 2 era is blogging. Blog changes the way people use computer from consumer to distributor of knowledge. Blogs is easily create and updateable website that unable the author to become instant publishers on the internet. The task-based nature of blogging promotes authentic and purposeful language use with the form playing a secondary role. This also aids students’ fluency development.
Learning through blogging unable learner to interact with unlimitedaudience. So, hey have to use English to make them can interact and communicate among blogger from another country.

  25. Friend, what do you think when we talk about technology? Yes, of course most of you said that technology is created to make human activity is more efficient and easier. It is also happens in educational environment, this time I would like to share how come technology influence learning. As the journal that I’ve read, I found that technology make a big effect to students achievement. Based on the research, technology influence students motivation on learning when technology is included in curriculum, especially for Math, English language art, and social studies. The students who participate on online resources produce their better project than who did not. The online users also received significantly higher scores relative to:
    • presenting their work,
    • stating a civil rights issue,
    • presenting a full picture (who, what, when, where, why, how),
    • bringing together different points of view, and
    • producing a complete project
For the complete information about that, you can find the journal from this link.

  29. Sarah Elaine Eaton
    University of Calgary (Calgary, Canada)

Skype is an excellent tool for ESL/EFL educators who are tentative about using more sophisticated learning technologies. Because Skype originally began as a voice-over-Internet-protocol (VOIP) service, as a cost-effective alternative to traditional phone calls, its application as a personal communication tool makes it more attractive to those who struggle to incorporate technology into their classrooms.
    Skype’s advanced features such as:
    1. Conference calls
Pioneers of using Skype in the classroom immediately noted the potential for international connections between classrooms and students (Waters, 2008b). This is a natural fit for language educators interested in having cross-cultural exchanges with students using Skype. One Australian educator has used Skype for inter-school debates (Smethurst, 2009). This may be of interest to language teachers, as it is noted that activities such as debates and speech competitions in the target language are on the rise (Eaton, 2010a).
    2. Instant messaging or chart
The chat function helps to smooth out online communications, allowing users to briefly acknowledge one another or explain a situation, rather than simply terminating a call. This is particularly useful for ESL/EFL students who may find writing easier than speaking.
    3. File sharing
Users can send files, which is much like adding an attachment to an e-mail, except that the sharing takes place in real time, during a call. Users can send almost any kind of file such as a .pdf, a Word document. The the party on the other end can open it as soon as they receive it, allowing users to discuss it during their call. Teachers can use this feature to share activities or resources with students during a lesson.
    4. Screen sharing
This feature allows users to share a portion of their screen or their entire screen, with others on the call. This is particularly useful for giving presentations. One user may enable a presentation in full-screen mode, while sharing their screen with other users. Teachers can use the screen sharing option to give slide presentations to students during a lesson. The screen sharing function is only activated once the user is in a call.

  31. Good night friends..

i would like to share this link http://education.jhu.edu/newhorizons/lifelonglearning/higher-education/internet/

internet based-instruction nowadays has been a new method to teach. in the beginning of this method, people doubt about the effectiveness of this new method.

"In the United States today, the numbers of students enrolling in distance learning courses are increasing at a rapid pace. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (2002) reports that of the 5,655 institutions that are accredited by the 17 institutional accreditors, 1,979 offer a form of distance-delivered learning programs or courses. According to the NCES (2003), in the 2000-2001 year, 90 percent of public higher education institutions that offered distance education courses reported that they offered Internet courses using asynchronous computer-based instruction, while 43 percent reported that they used synchronous computer-based instruction. In addition, during this time frame, 2- and 4-year institutions offered an estimated 2,810 college-level degree programs that were designed to be completed totally through distance education instruction. Of these, 1,570 were undergraduate degree programs and 1,240 were graduate/first-professional degree programs. Public 2-year institutions had 48 percent of total enrollments, which were 1,472,000 enrollments, in distance education during the 2000-2001 academic year, the greatest number of all institutions offering distance education courses."

the article said that most people in many institution used this method. by looking the number of the user, we can know that this method is very effective. in my point of view, it proof that internet can be a media to teach. in other word by using this method, the teacher don't need to have a class with the students.

internet based-instruction, we can use this in Learner-centered teaching.
technology and instruction is becoming more and more sophisticated. Considering this, it is imperative that researchers determine the best method to make sure of student retention and success in this environment.

  32. I got two interesting articles about the particular kind of technology has been used by the teachers in their teaching

This is the experience of Vicki A Davis in teaching her student
This is what she had done: You must check student profiles to make sure they haven't put anything in them and you must "scare them" before embarking on Skype. Here is how she introduced it:

    1) she talked about what Skype is. (Internet telephone service that allows you to chat, share files, share hyperlinks, and conference call as well as see each other on video.)

    2) She talked about the profiles, safety and security concerns on skype. (Watch the video.)

    3) she had each user set up their service and make a Skype test call.

    4) Then, they had to Add me as a user and call me. (This was required for a grade.)

    5) THE TEACHER PHONE CALL

On the phone call with her, she showed them how to turn on video calling, use the avatar that came with our web cams to protect their identity and how to launch a side chat.
Each student was required to call me and add me to their contacts so I could see the details available publicly.

    6) CLASS CONFERENCE CALL

After she spoke with each student, she addressed the class and told them she was about to call a large group of them and as soon as they answered to mute their microphone

    7) The Skypecast-

I was brave and did this for only one class on a topic. I've got to refine this. We the same trouble that I had when I began using skypecasts... making it so you could ask for the microphone! I've got to refine this.
for more onfo you can click http://coolcatteacher.blogspot.com/2006/10/using-skype-in-classroom-or-just.html

    Second article:
Language teaching is one area in which the application of technology has been encouraged. So far, technological equipment such as radio, TV, cassettes, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and communicative tools such as e-mails, chat rooms, discussion boards, and internet conferences are being used in language classes. According to Usun and Kömür (2009), technology such as movies and music can help instructors in language classes by providing them a good opportunity to develop and create different, enjoyable tasks for their classes. Wang (2004) also added that the use of technology helps meet language learners communication needs as well as help them develop their language skills in the classroom. Using various kinds of technological devices gives language students the sense of freedom, motivation, and encouragement they need for learning (Genc- Ilter, 2009).
in this article, you can find some results from the experts like Tsai and Jenks (2009) and Sarica and Cavus (2008) research indicate that the use of technology in language classes helps improve the four skill areas recommended for success, that is, listening (Belz, 2002), speaking (Kung, 2003), writing (Anderson and Speck, 2001), and reading (Case & Truscott, 1999, Deeler and Grey, 2000). Genc- Ilter (2009) strongly recommends the following for successful integration of technology in the language curriculum: instructors need to focus on the importance of using authentic and interactive activities, materials should be selected with the needs and interests of the students in mind, the lessons should meet pedagogical requirements, and the activities should be well supported by the technology.

  34. Abstract
The purpose of this article is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of computer technology for second language learning. Research findings indicate that the use of computer has a positive effect on the achievement levels of second language learners, but it still has its limitations and weaknesses, such as financial, isolated, and knowledge required issues. The authors emphasize that we must recognize both the advantages and disadvantages of using computers so we can get the maximum effectiveness of technology to enhance second language learning.

    Comment:
Technology is no longer a new thing in language teaching. But, until today its use is still questioned as it can bring a lot of disadventages in language teaching. On the other hand, we also can not deny that its functions are also very needed in order to support language teaching development. We can not totally refuse to use tecnology in language teaching because it means that we ignore the functions of technology for second language teaching’s innovation.
The internet, for example, can be a harmful thing for student. Student can spend so many time only for chatting or greet their friends in social networking. On the other hand, internet also serves many sites supporting the lesson, such as wikiversity.com, etc.
However, the trend of technology, more or less, will affect our second language teaching. Now the problem is not only about how to organize the adventages and disadventages, but also how to prepare ourselves. We know that our country is still lack of both facilities and teacher’s skills of technology using. That is why the use of technology in second language teaching and learning in our country is not really optimal yet. There are so many thing to be repaired to get maximum use of technology in language teaching and learning.

  35. As we know, technology is developing from year to year. Technology can be used in language learning. In foreign language learning lends naturally to the use of media. The use of technology in language learning and teaching appeared ready to increase because of several developments. One of example is youtube. Youtube can be used for video or movie. New monies for the use of technology in foreign language instruction appeared. The use of equipment in foreign language classroom teaching and the use of computers in the language teaching are touched. In the article that I read about of Technology in the service of foreign language learning, this article try to tell about language laboratory.

The language laboratory movement threw content and media specialists together in an intimate working relationship that produced very strange and startling experiences. For the first time, language teachers discovered that the mode and materials of instruction interact with instructional behavioral objectives and methods. So, Surely language laboratories represent the single largest investment and installment of audio resources in education. It is no accident that the foreign-language teaching community has been heavily involved in using audio. Audio has face validity in foreign language instruction simply because much of language use is oral/aural.

  41. Guys...we already know that in the age of technology, we cannot be separated from our cell phones? It is like our second soul, isn't it?
But do you realize that our activity using mobile phone can support us in learning language, particularly in learning new words? I have read a research by Nadire Cavus and Dogan Ibrahim.Nadire Cavus is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Information Systems at Near East University.
Her main research interests are distant learning, collaborative learning, mobile learning, and learning management systems. Dogan Ibrahim is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering at Near
East University. His main research interests are distant learning, mobile learning, and technology based
learning. In this research, they are focus on the increasing use of wireless technologies in education all over the world. In fact, wireless technologies such as laptop computers, palmtop computers and mobile phones are revolutionising education and transforming the traditional classroom-based learning and teaching into anytime and anywhere education. There has been significant interest and growth in the number of institutions using mobile devices to support learning and teaching. Mobile learning, or m-learning for short, is a new concept, and is very closely related to e-learning. Briefly, they talk about how SMS can support students' learning process. There have been applications in the literature for the use of SMS text messaging in education. Ananova (2001) report a study where SMS messaging is used for revision support in secondary schools in Merseyside, UK. Soloway et al (1996) describes a trial using SMS text messaging at the Kingston University (UK) to support 1st-year degree students in terms of time management and ensuring that essential core learning is not missed at an early stage. SMS is also used to complete exerciseswhich facilitate learning and to complete assessed work (Stone, Briggs & Smith, 2002).

  43. you tube is very famous in people of the world
YouTube is a video sharing service that allows users to watch videos posted by other users and upload videos of their own. The service was started as an independent website in 2005 and was acquired by Google in 2006. Videos that have been uploaded to YouTube may appear on the YouTube website and can also be posted on other websites, though the files are hosted on the YouTube server.

The slogan of the YouTube website is "Broadcast Yourself." This implies the YouTube service is designed primarily for ordinary people who want to publish videos they have created. While several companies and organizations also use YouTube to promote their business, the vast majority of YouTube videos are created and uploaded by amateurs.

YouTube videos are posted by people from all over the world, from all types of backgrounds. Therefore, there is a wide range of videos available on YouTube. Some examples include amateur films, homemade music videos, sports bloopers, and other funny events caught on video. People also use YouTube to post instructional videos, such as step-by-step computer help, do-it-yourself guides, and other how-to videos. Since Google offers revenue sharing for advertisement clicks generated on video pages, some users have been able to turn YouTube into a profitable enterprise.

While YouTube can serve a business platform, most people simply visit YouTube for fun. Since so many people carry digital cameras or cell phones with video recording capability, more events are now captured on video than ever before. While this has created an abundant collection of entertaining videos, it also means that people should be aware that whatever they do in public might be caught on video. And if something is recorded on video, it just might end up on YouTube for the whole world to see.

You can select an issue, watch two short videos of members of congress expressing different perspectives on how to tackle this issue, and then support the one you agree with most. The most supported videos will be tracked on the youtube. After you watch the video, you’ll find out which party the representative comes from—and sometimes you might be surprised.

  52. Hi guys…..
This time, I would like to post about the article, journal or paper research that Mr. Urai asked us to analyze and comment about it.
I just found the paper research. The title is “Using Skype in the Second and Foreign Language Classroom”. This paper discuss about how to use Skype to teach second and foreign language. Skype was briefly compared to other technologies. The benefits and disadvantages were reviewed. Skype is a communication tool that allows users to make audio and video calls over the Internet.
These calls are free to other Skype users. Skype also offers a computer-to-land-line service for both local and international calls. The computer-to-land-line service is a fee-based service.
A Skype account is required in order to make and receive calls. It is similar to needing an e-mail account in order to send e-mails. Users choose a user name, just as with e-mail, or other technologies. That user name remains with the user for as long as the account is active.
It is necessary for users to have a mic and audio capabilities enabled on their computer. If the computer does not have these features built in, users must buy a Skype-enabled headset with earphones and a mic.
Once the user has the necessary equipment and an account set up, he or she can begin using
Skype to make computer-to-computer calls. If both the account holder and the party on the other end have web cams, they can make a point-to-point video call. Users are able to see each other throughout the call. If the connection is slow or if users do not have web cams, they can still make audio calls.
It is important to remember that Skype works computer to computer, not necessarily person-to person. One computer may be hooked up to a large screen and presenter slides may be projected onto that large screen to a group of people sitting in a theatre-style classroom. In this way, Skype may be used to teach groups of people.

    Advanced features
Although Skype could arguably be considered less sophisticated than other web or video conferencing tools, nevertheless it has some advanced features that make it useful for educational purposes. These advanced features include:
    • Conference calls
    • Instant messaging or chat
    • File sharing
    • Screen sharing
Skype is an excellent tool for educators who are somewhat tentative about using more sophisticated learning technologies. Skype originally began as a voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP) service, as a cost-effective alternative to traditional phone calls, its application as a personal communication tool makes it more attractive to those who struggle to incorporate technology into their classrooms. Skype’s advanced features such as screen sharing, file transfer and instant messaging make this VOIP technology appropriate as a teaching tool, in addition to a personal communication tool.

In my view that, this books tell us about strategies for Web discussions, building interactive Web pages, and using web for teaching. Strategy for web discussion maybe means, we can use technology for discission to the other learners, and building interactive web pages maybe means create web that is very interesting for teaching and learning on internet, and the last is using web for teaching, maybe in this statement means that they provides many kinds of books, application, games and many more tools that can use for teaching on internet. You also can get this book for free from these 2 websites, those are www.continuumbooks.com and http: //avaxhome.ws/eBooks/taskbll.html. This book has 238 pages, consists of 11 chapters. The first chapter is about Deconstructing Tasks and Technology, there are also about Task Design for a Virtual Learning Environment in a Distance Language Course, Teacher Development, TBLT and Technology, Real-World Writing Tasks in a Virtual World and so on. This book is including the virtualization of language teacher professional development, the use of electronic portfolios, synchronous and asynchronous communication, and telecollaboration. Furthermore, this book is also talking about CALL technologies that can interest us in language learning. It also tells us how different tools can be important things in learning. For instance, in e-portfolios, the student teachers use their e-portfolios to teaching standards and evaluate their own professional development. In additional, you can download the book and can get more information about language learning with technology from the book.Posted by Erlinda, F42109019

  68. During the initial stages of instructed L2 acquisition students learn a couple thousand, mainly high frequency words. Functional language proficiency, however, requires mastery of a considerably larger number of words. It is therefore necessary at the intermediate and advanced stages of language acquisition to learn a large vocabulary in a short period of time. There is not enough time to copy the natural (largely incidental) L1 word acquisition process. Incidental acquisition of the words is only possible up to a point, because, on account of their low frequency, they do not occur often enough in the L2 learning material. Acquisition of new words from authentic L2 reading texts by means of strategies such as contextual deduction is also not a solution for a number of reasons. There appears to be no alternative to intentional learning of a great many new words in a relatively short period of time. The words to be learned may be presented in isolation or in context. Presentation in bilingual word lists seems an attractive shortcut because it takes less time than contextual presentation and yields excellent short term results. Long term retention, however, is often disappointing so contextual presentation seems advisable. Any suggestions how to implement this in pedagogic contexts should be based on a systematic analysis of the two most important aspects of the L2 word learning problem, that is to say, selecting the relevant vocabulary (which and how many words) and creating optimal conditions for the acquisition process. This article sets out to describe a computer assisted word acquisition programme (CAVOCA) which tries to do precisely this: the programme operationalises current theoretical thinking about word acquisition, and its contents are based on a systematic inventory of the vocabulary relevant for the target group. To establish its efficiency, the programme was contrasted in a number of experimental settings with a paired associates method of learning new words. The experimental results suggest that an approach combining the two methods is most advisable.

  75. hi... friends..
i will tell you about Classroom technology that has already come a long way from blackboards and chalk, but UH College of Education Alum Sheri Alford is on a mission to bring her district’s classrooms to the next level, furnishing them with devices that feature technology similar to smartphones. Alford, who serves as Director of Educational Technology in Spring Branch ISD, is currently focused on introducing a tool called the Promethean Activboard.

The Promethean Activboard is an interactive whiteboard that acts not only as a space for the instructor to write, but can also show video and access the internet. Instead of simply doing work at the blackboard, students can interact with dynamic, moving images and literally make their mark. Even from their desks, students use a response system that ties data back to the Activboard and gives teachers a real-time snapshot of student progress.

You can learn not only languages, but also music for example, you can search how to play guitar for beginners, and etc. You tube has been very, y'know, helpful.
Of course, this has to be supported by the good internet connection to avoid buffering.

  84. Guys, I want to share a paper I’ve got. It is about e-mail in the virtual ESL/EFL classroom. As we know, e-mail belongs to computer-mediated communication (CMC) and also beomes a new form of communication which is becoming an integral part of modern life. It is offering new modes of communication for engaging learners in authentic language learning experiences. It has been reported that through the use of CMC language learners can develop not only language skills but also intercultural communicative competence, lifelong learning skills and digital literacies, key competences for becoming active participants of the Information Society.
This paper attempts to show how e-mail could be used more effectively by illustrating the difference between e-mail and academic writing, investigating how e-mail functions as an instructional and learning tool.

  85. Foreign language instructors, most often, experiment in various approaches and methods, seeking to integrate the new technology into their present curriculum. This is natural as the introduction of the technology is new to the EFL classroom, and requires constant investigation and experimentation. The aim of this paper is to put forth a method of instruction which has yielded favorable results in improved language production especially in written English, giving consideration to student needs and teacher goals. The paper will detail how a one-year composition course utilized the computer facilities at a major university in Japan. The course set out to familiarize students with basic typing skills and general computer usage, and went on to help them understand the Internet with the ultimate goal of using it to create well-designed, well-written and interesting home pages.
Students were involved in tasks and projects that required them to participate in newsgroup discussions via an intranet system, to learn how to use the Internet for general research purposes, to create home page maps, and to create text and materials for personal home pages. The course called on students to use written English in every aspect of the creation of their home pages. The balance between writing instruction and computer instruction was met with promising results in students gaining competence in both areas of instruction.
I’d like to share this paper to all of you,

Moodle is an open source Course Management System (CMS) to educational institution which adds web technology to their course. Moodle is used to deliver online courses and to supplement traditional face-to-face (FTF) courses.
Created by Martin Dougiamas, a computer scientist and educator, who realized that a system built by someone who started with the educational process, rather than an engineering process, would be infinitely better than what he had to work with.
As an open source software, it allows for customizing its interface in a great deal depend on a class purposes, the integration of a wide range of resources, and a wide range of assessment strategies. It is also aligned with the academic community’s values of freedom, peer review, and knowledge sharing.
Moodle's design is grounded in a socio-constructivist theory of learning. Learning tasks or projects can be designed so as to allow for cooperation between the instructor and students or among students by using
different formats of social interaction. Almost all modules are designed
to allow teachers or course participants to provide feedback in qualitative or quantitative form.
Another advantage of Moodle is it costs nothing to download and can be installed on many servers. It only needs a web host. Unfortunately, in our country there is no a web host that provide Moodle to support Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in Indonesia.

I think, it is better to download the video rather than just waitch it on youtube directly, because buffering will take long time. moreover, if we download the video, we can watch it again and again without need to go to youtube.

Twittering is also a less gated method of communication. We can share information with people that we wouldn't normally exchange email or IM messages with, opening up your circle of contacts to an ever-growing community of like-minded people.
People can use twitter to share their business or personal use. It's good tool to help us to know much information or to know about someone that we interested or admired, we can always keep in touch with them. And also to quickly broadcast information about many thing.
There are many advantages that can we use on Twitter, such as to get latest news, to find people that can be inspiration for us to do and to help in teaching learning with read many inform that we can get. It's absolutely useful.(Sri Siti Wahyuni)

  94. Well, I’ve read about the article entitled ‘Teaching primary literacy with ICT’. This article explains about many benefits to using ICT to teach literacy. ICT allows the teacher to produce and modify resources quickly and easily. It allows access to a wide range of information in various formats, and interactive whiteboards (IWBs) have become essential tools in the classroom. The tools such computers, software, cameras, handy cam, and other ICT devices can make teaching more effective and more fun for the students. You can see the article here: http://www.teachingexpertise.com/articles/teaching-primary-literacy-ict-6996
We live in the age of technology. As the teacher, we should use it to improve our teaching quality. In my opinion, if ICT used appropriately by the teacher, it will improve the student’s achievement, inspire the students to think creatively and help them to develop their skill in technology. It also can save teacher’s time and inspire pupils to learn better.

  96. We live in technology age. We can use many technologies as media education. We can use technology not just for entertainment but it can be the tools to learn. School students are now being switched on to some of the most up-to-date technology available, from laptop computers for students in years 9-12 to interactive whiteboards, video-conferencing equipment and even virtual classrooms.
And, although they sound space-aged and technical, most of the technologies that students are using are the same as those in most homes; the main difference is that, in schools, their educational potential is being explored.

  98. Started in the early eighties of the twenties century, computers are entering schools. Although the computer and ideas to support innovative uses are present, there is a lag in educators' understanding of computers and how they relate to learning and thinking. The problem is an educational one "What do educators?", "Who want to use the computer?", "Need to know and how can they acquire this knowledge?".

These questions can be answered in various ways. However the answers don't lead us to the very source of the matter. They obscure far deeper issues. The use of computers in education is related to the view on how student learn and the role of the educator in that process. We have to consider the use of the computer in relation with all kinds of educational software.

you know what? when we get confuse about how to pronounce the vowels, consonants, and diphthongs in English spelling in phonology class, we can use this website to download or just see the videos how the native speaker speak in English fluently. I think we all are already use the youtube also in order to promote our blogs to the others.

Now I want to introduce a website that is very useful for us, too.

    http://www.mylot.com

have you ever been go to this web address above before? it is a kind of social network that is very interesting. in this web, we can share our ideas and our problem solving, of course our education need as well. this web also give us a chance to earn money by ourselves. it is quite easy. we just start our own discussion or comment in to others discussion/posting, then we can earn money (dollars). I am already a member of it, but I don't want the money actually, I just want to improve English skill (because everything in this web is in English) and share my ideas with others. we can post anything, but based on the type of the posting. In this website, there are many type of discussion that are we can share with. for example, education, school, English, food, campus, travel, student, reading, listening, writing, speaking, health, love, music, movies, sports, and many more. they are all in interest's group. So, what you're waiting, just join to this group and enjoy the discussion...

I have some experiences for that. for example, when I want to see the debating video for Academic debate contest in America, I just have to go to visit this website and I found many of the videos. oh, I remember the time when I want to search some videos in 'making a cup of coffee' that is I want use to support my delivery lesson plan in TEFL class, I download it from youtube, too.

you know what? when we get confuse about how to pronounce the vowels, consonants, and diphthongs in English spelling in phonology class, we can use this website to download or just see the videos how the native speaker speak in English fluently. I think we all are already use the youtube also in order to promote our blogs to the others.

Now I want to introduce a website that is very useful for us, too.

have you ever been go to this web address above before? it is a kind of social network that is very interesting. in this web, we can share our ideas and our problem solving, of course our education need as well. this web also give us a chance to earn money by ourselves. it is quite easy. we just start our own discussion or comment in to others discussion/posting, then we can earn money (dollars).

  118. MALL applications,
Stipulations aside, technologies, mobile or otherwise, can be instrumental in language instruction. Ultimately, though, they are not in and of themselves instructors; rather, they are intructional tools. And effective use of any tool in language learning requires the thoughtful application of second language pedagogy.

I give several examples that are showing us that youtube is important, especially for us who learn English as second languages. Youtube give us chances to be able to doing communicate with foreign people, for example the native speaker whether they are Americans, British, Australians, Japans/Nihongo, Koreans and many others. besides that, by using youtube video, we can found a lot of video that are very useful.

Now I want to introduce a website that is very useful for us, too.

    http://www.mylot.com

have you ever been go to this web address above before? it is a kind of social network that is very interesting. in this web, we can share our ideas and our problem solving, of course our education need as well. this web also give us a chance to earn money by ourselves. it is quite easy. we just start our own discussion or comment in to others discussion/posting, then we can earn money (dollars).

  145. Hello guys, I want to share an article about “Mobile Applications for Language Learning”. I took this article from LLT. This article is about kinds of applications which enhance us in language learning. In this article there are many applications for mobile or smart phones discussed in term of their function to enhance language learning. Claire Siskin has provided a nice list of applications for language learning, and others have listed and reviewed apps for all languages, or for specific languages such as Japanese, French, and ESL. Many of these apps are of similar kind to those available for some time on phones, including flashcard programs, dual language dictionaries, and phrase books. Phrase books for instance, can now hold much more content, including video as well as audio, and integrate with online sites. For example, eStroke, its primary purpose is to help in learning stroke order for writing Chinese characters, but it also includes an extensive dual language dictionary, features excellent animations, and includes personal library and quizzing functions. The apps also automatically syncs the user’s learning status on the app with that on the Web site and allows lesson content to be downloaded for off-line study, one of the benefits of apps over the live Web. Another example is Anki, a space repetition vocabulary study program. The Town Musicians of Bremen is designed for children. Another Android voice translation app is Talk to Me, which has gotten positive review.
Those apps above are some examples of mobile applications to enhance language learning. You can find more in this article, and the way is so easy. You can try the link above and find many applications for mobile to enhance language learning. Please try this link.

  146. Image Processing for Teaching (IPT) in Science Classrooms

Image Processing Technology was created at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona in 1989. This project with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and inspired by the idea of digital image processing was designed to investigate possible contributions to teaching and learning in science education. There are not many studies on the use of Image Processing for Teaching (IPT) and its impact on science learning and teaching. This qualitative case study investigated the effectiveness of Image Processing for Teaching (IPT) as a viable educational tool in one science classroom in Cincinnati Public Schools. This study addresses two dimensions of the use of IPT Technology, the teacher-technology interaction process and its effectiveness in science teaching.

  147. Supporting Synchronous Distance Language Learning With Desktop Videoconferencing

This study involves three dimensions: distance language education (DLE) as the context, videoconferencing as the technology, and the provision of synchronous oral and visual interaction in DLE as the core research problem. This article follows on this author's previous research in regard to the inclusion of oral and visual interaction in distance language learning through the use of Internet-based desktop videoconferencing tools. It evaluates the findings from a two-stage evaluation of a particular videoconferencing tool, NetMeeting. The results from this research confirm that the present generation of Internet-based desktop videoconferencing tools are capable of supporting oral and visual interaction in DLE. Recommendations are presented for future use of videoconferencing in DLE.

Audio has face validity in foreign language instruction simply because much of language use is oral/aural.

    http://llt.msu.edu/issues/february2011/yang.pdf

This article called LEARNER INTERPRETATIONS OF SHARED SPACE IN MULTILATERAL ENGLISH BLOGGING. The creator of this article is Diana Yang from National Sun Yat Sen University. This article talk about understanding how English learners interpret shared space in an online multilateral English blogging context and how their interpretations of shared space contribute to their multilingual exchange experience.

The article talk about how twenty four Asian learners from two different universities participated the study. This study suggests that although students who interpreted shared space from the commonality perspective were able to engage in inter-class blogging, they faced difficulties in exploring other possibilities in relating to the blog content, the blog discussions, and the bloggers, when commonality was absent. However, for students who interpreted shared space from the relativity perspective, they were able to form relationships of possibility in mediating encounters through uses of heterogeneous semiotic resources.

  153. well, I think youtube is one of the most useful website in our teaching learning process (if we use it correctly).

This article called "CORPUS-ASSISTED CREATIVE WRITING: INTRODUCING INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN LEARNERS TO A CORPUS AS A REFERENCE RESOURCE". This article was created by Claire Kennedy and Tiziana Miceli from Griffith University. This article tell us that the learners are viewed as researchers, who formulate and test their own hypotheses about language use. This article also described the approach the the creators have adopted to the corpus apprenticeship and reports on an evaluation of its effectiveness through case studies of three students and their use of a corpus and bilingual dictionary as reference resources when writing. Drawing on insights from the case studies, the creators also outline a working definition of corpus-consultation literacy for our learning context and identify some refinements to be made to our apprenticeship.

  159. https://sites.google.com/site/journaloftechnologyforelt/archive/april2011/mobileassistedlanguagelearning

Mobile learning is undergoing rapid evolution. Mobile phones can support many kinds of learning, including language learning. Mobile technologies offer numerous practical uses in language learning. A computer is better than a mobile phone for handling various types of information such as visual, sound, and textual information, but mobile phone is superior to a computer in portability. They can be just as easily utilized outside of the classroom as they can in it;learners can study or practice manageable chunks of information in any place on their own time, thereby taking advantage of their convenience.
Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) describes an approach to language learning that is assisted or enhanced through the use of a handheld mobile device. MALL is a subset of both Mobile Learning (m-learning) and Computer-assisted language learning (CALL). MALL is language learning using mobile devices such as:
    • Cell (mobile) phones (including the iPhone or iPad.)
    • MP3 or MP4 players (e.g. iPods)
    • Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) (e.g. Palm Pilot, Blackberry, etc)
With MALL, students are able to access language learning materials and to communicate with their teachers and peers at anytime, anywhere.

  160. I'm sorry I'm late to post an article because be a problem with our blog....

I have been found an article about learning style ...

    Learning Styles, Modalities and Strategies

The children in our classes are unique in their personalities, cultural experiences and values. Different students prefer different learning environments, learning modalities and they all exhibit unique strengths, talents and/or weaknesses. If we are to be successful in leading our students through the task of learning we must provide a variety of learning approaches so that these differences can be recognized and provided for in every classroom. Understanding the different ways that children learn, interact with and process information can help us modify the way we teach so that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed.

There has been a great deal of work on learning styles over the last 2 decades. Dunn and Dunn (http://www.learningstyles.net/) focused on identifying relevant stimuli that may influence learning and manipulating the school environment, at about the same time as Joseph Renzulli recommended varying teaching strategies. Howard Gardner identified individual talents or aptitudes in his Multiple Intelligences theories. Based on the works of Jung, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator instrument and Kersley's Temperament Sorter focused on understanding how people's personality affects the way they interact personally, and how this affects the way individuals respond to each other within the learning environment. The work of David Kolb and Anthony Gregorc's Type Delineator follows a similar but more simplified approach.

Some design features and evaluation criteria for multimedia CALL might be developed on the basis of hypotheses about ideal conditions for second language acquisition (SLA). It outlines a relevant theory of SLA and enumerates the hypotheses it implies for ideal conditions such as input saliency, opportunities for interaction, and learner focus on communication. Implications of each hypothesis for multimedia CALL design and evaluation are outlined and exemplified.

Seven Hypotheses Relevant for Developing Multimedia CALL
    1. The linguistic characteristics of target language input need to be made salient.
    2. Learners should receive help in comprehending semantic and syntactic aspects of linguistic input.
    3. Learners need to have opportunities to produce target language output.
    4. Learners need to notice errors in their own output.
    5. Learners need to correct their linguistic output.
    6. Learners need to engage in target language interaction whose structure can be modified for negotiation of meaning.
    7. Learners should engage in L2 tasks designed to maximize opportunities for good interaction.

  164. Hi guys! I found an interesting journal here. It is a journal of Saaed Mubarak.
Saaed Mubarak is an English teacher that using Facebook in Teaching and Learning English.
Based on his journal, I can find there are 5 steps to do it.
First, he makes a group at facebook.
Second, inside the group, he posts a topic for his students to write on, then he chooses the best three for voting. It means that, the teacher will choose three best writes and then ask the students to “like” it for the write which they think it is the best. Am I right? If that so, this step sounds fun, hehehe..
Third, using his own personal network, he invites “guests” into the group so that they can contribute to the discussion boards. I think this is the most interesting point. Because, I think it was cool if our teacher invite his/her native friend to join the group and then chat or discuss with us. They can correcting our work and give us some advice to improve our English. More over we can learn new vocabulary from them. 
Fourth, he makes sure that his students always respond to my original post for a grade, and then give points for when they respond to others in the discussion board. It is the same method that Sir Urai do, hehehe.. but I think this way more eficient because not every day the students open their blog, but it is everyday for them to open their facebook. :P
The last, he encourages the students to post a topic of their choice in order to ignite their creative.
Well, I think we can try this way for teaching and learning English. When posting a discussion, the teacher do not have to tell again to his/her students, because the notification will automatically apear . the students can invite his/her friend (the lazy one) to join the discussion by mentioning her/his nae in their comment. The teacher also can upload a photo, for example is the photo of his class situation (the funny one) and then asks the students to comment the photo. He can analize how active the students for using English in daily conversation. Sounds fun, yah?? Hohohohoho.. :D

Well, I also agree with all of you guys. You tube can be a good media for us to learn. You can learn English in many accents, or whatever. You can also other languages. You can learn not only languages, but also music for example, you can search how to play guitar for beginners, and etc. You tube has been very, you know, helpful. You can really have an autonomous learning by only watching the video.
Of course, this has to be supported by the good internet connection to avoid buffering.

  166. CREATING AN AUTHENTIC LEARNING ENVIRONTMENT IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSROOM
    Larisa Nikitina

“Theatrical activities, such as role play, drama production , improvisations, skits based on folk tales and fairy tales have been ubiquitous feature in the language classroom…” ( Nikitina, 2011, p. 34).

“Through the creative process ample opportunities arise for the students to collaborate on the task, to reflect on their learning, and to explore the task from different perspectives. The learners have to deal with multiple responsibilities, such as writing the script, preparing physical props, acting, choosing suitable locations to shoot the video, etc., which also promotes the learners’ ownership of their learning.” (Nikitina, 2011, p. 36)

Teaching English as a Foreign Language have such kind of difficulty in case that the language is introduced as other language beside the learners’ mother tongue. The communicative approach then plays the important part in order to bring the real language situation in use to make English easily to be adopted as their language (the learners). Although in this article the target language is Russian but in Malaysia, this language is taught as a foreign language so that the nature of this pedagogy is merely the same with teaching English in Indonesia (In Malaysia English is used as the second language).

In this article, the teacher focuses her research in theatrical activity such as role play, drama, etc., which at the end the students should be able to make a video recording based on their performance. This activity, furthermore, is appropriate in language teaching class in case that it calls authentic language use along with practice on constructivism approach which the product (video) scaffolds the learners in achieving their experience in learning.

Making video or video project in this article is not strictly emphasis on the use of movie maker application but at least this gadget is one of the devices that can help the students to do it so. At the end, “Theatre and art are inalienable parts of human existence. We live in a dramatized society where drama surrounding us, through the pervasive televised and cinematic performances that we view on our screens… to the roles in society that we assume on the streets.” (Hornbrook, 1998; Moody, 2002, p. 140 in Nikitina, p.36). I recommend you to read this article in www.e-iji.net p-ISSN: 1694-609X because in my opinion this article can be one of your consideration in designing the activity in the classroom along with the use of ICT.

  167. hello everyone..
i'm so glad to see your comments above..
there are so many interesting comments..
from the article I read...said that " YouTube offers fast and fun access to language and culture-based videos and instruction from all over the globe. It provides an outlet for student and teacher-created videos, and most importantly, YouTube videos provide students with an opportunity to engage meaningfully in the target language. so, youtube is the place for students and teachers to learn and teach something from shared-video. beside that, in youtube there are videos to learn all languages in this world. For example is my friend, she is very excited about Korea from the culture, entertaintment even the language (Hangul) to learn. All of that she learn from video about it in youtube. Now, she can spoke Korean (Hangul ) just learn by shared-video in youtube. From this case I think, youtube is can enhance the learning process because it is interesting.

In software where the computer acts as a tutor (e.g. Choice master) computer can be used in a variety of ways to create both tests with or without error messages, and tests which are linked to reading or listening skills. A latest version of this software provides the user with corrections or hints explaining at the same time why a certain selection was wrong. What is notable with software programs of this type is that the learner can learn without the presence of teacher and in a privacy without being too concerned by possible errors whereas in the classroom they would hold back." (Demaiziere 1983:11-12 in Ahmad et al 1985:115). Of course, as it is apparent, the traditional role of teacher shifts in this case from that of classroom operator to that of a language advisor while the students get used to autonomous learning .

It is clear that computer is a good technology in foreign learning.
If you guys want to read it more, you can download it, and I'll give you the link.

Beside the application above, I also have one unique application again.
    It is Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.com)
That application is useful to support your learning, even if you not only like English but also mate, hmm is an appropriate thing . From it we can make use of our extensive video library, practice exercises, and assessments from any computer with access to the web. All of the site's resources are available to anyone. 171. The world has become one big global neighborhood thanks to the Internet in recent years. As internet users, I can be talking one hour to a colleague across the country and the next hour sharing ideas with other students or finding teachers for my learning in Europe, Australia, or America. These days we can talk to seemingly anyone — email them, IM them, call them, Skype them — we have so many options available.

There’s still one barrier to effectively communicating on a global scale though — language. If we can’t understand each other, it’s very difficult to communicate. Just as the Web helps close geographical divides, it can help us overcome language barriers too. There are many free online language learning programs available to help us learn a foreign language — just about any language we want!

Today let’s look at YouTube. With many collections of free language learning videos that help us get started in learning any kinds of different languages online. Prove it now...

  172. Hallo….I want to share an application that I think it is interesting. It is about http://www.readplease.com/english/downloads/.... Through this application, U can train your Listening skill and finally you can improve your pronunciation. May be you have been known or even ever used this program..But I think, there is no harm if I share about this. Moreover for them who never used this program.
The point of this software is to accustom our ears to hear English spoken by native speakers of English, which is what native speakers say in the software that we know of his writings, making it easy for us to understand his point. IN this application, you can choose by yourself about the dialect (British, American, etc) and also you can manage the speed in reading the passage.
    So, let’s try it!!

  173. I really like youtube. I decided to go to the website and look up some old songs I grew up on, and they all seem to be there. Not only can you hear good songs, but you can watch clips of movies, get some piano lessons or guitar lessons; whatever your interested in; they even have piano players that will play a song and you can sing along, and much much more. Now there are some bad things on there too; I'm not really drawn to those videos.
